KAUZ has lost and fired countless employees- including me. So my comment wasn't just broad stroked- it is from experience.

shock Jim?

The KAUZ website still has the incorrect information. It will be very interesting to see how they report the story in the coming days as the purchase plays out. How in the world would they report the story if the investors do not take the deal? Rolling Eyes IMO, a retraction of their previous story should appear on the 6pm news tonight.

A little competition is good. Perhaps it would be better if all of the hot air energy was put into the on air product and not bashing each other on this forum?

RE: writing/reporting... Take your time (as much as you can), choose your words carefully and report the facts. Badly chosen words can completely change the story.

J.F.K. - I really didn't mean to show any disrespect to you or any of the other board members. My apologies.
KAUZ has lost and fired countless quality employees - due to arrogance and ignorant decisions.
So my comment wasn't just broad stroked- it is from experience, because I was one of those fired. I can name at least a dozen off the top of my head; from Weathermen to Engineers, from Production Staff to Camera Operators. The list goes on.
As for what can Channel 6 do to improve in ratings: hold their employees accountable for poor journalism, photography and editing. Hold management accountable for poor decision making.
I get motion sickness just watching their video.

It is not just Ch. 6 in WF. The stations in DFW give out stories with an agenda or slant. Even the Spanish Language stations often 'misquote' on their reporting. I think it is something you must live with in the modern era of 'get ratings'. Things have changed from when I was a kid, and TV was our news source. OH! Well!

Some of it has to do with the imperative to be the first to report a story so you will "own" it. This leads to rushed and incomplete reporting. Balloon Boy is a perfect example of this.

I think that all National and Local rags misreport either to "own" the topic as Prodical points out, or to sensationalise the topic with say bumping up the amount of compensation paid to an individual. This was the case recently (recorded in another thread) about the amount of cash a hospital charged for the non English speaking driver who was ticketed. There was a whole raft of figures mentioned on different internet sites.

Mistakes happen.

KFDX reported tonight that at Fort Hood, the shooter was among the dead. He isn't.

KAUZ (somehow) left this out of their reporting. KFDX was wrong and KAUZ was right.

Sometimes mistakes just happen.

All media outlets where reporting the shooter to be dead. Not until a press conference this evening was that corrected.

Which go back to one of my constant complaints. Stations are so busy trying to be FIRST, perhaps the priority should be to be correct.

Apples & oranges to compare a local city council meeting and a national event that happened over 200 miles away. I doubt KAUZ or KFDX had reporters at Fort Hood. The local stations got their information from the network.

KFDX got their city council information first hand by being there. Where did KAUZ get their information concerning the council meeting?

btw heupel1485, on the 6pm news on KAUZ, it was reported the shooter was killed. I just watched the taped playback. To quote, "An A.P. source is identifing the shooter, killled at the scene as Major.........".

Wrong is wrong, Mr. M.

Which, it seems, I was about the KAUZ 6p. Must've missed it. What kind of setup do you have with tape playback of the local newscasts?

I gotta go with Mr. M. on this one. If local broadcasts quote the AP then I think that is considered a reliable source!

I wouldn't blame ALL news agencies for reporting that the gunman was dead. I saw the live interview with the Military Spokesman saying HE WAS DEAD!

H1485:

The reason I taped last nights 6pm news is because I left the house at 4pm and didn't want to miss Survivor at 7pm on CBS. Very Happy The news was recorded as well and I always watch the replay late on Thursdays.
