Now the paper is reporting that the city is buying the water park. People at the paper are wrong. The city agreed to submit an offer. The group that owns Castaway Cove doesn't have to agree to it.

I think the original story I posted stated the city was making an offer.

The headline might have been misleading but the body of the story appeared accurate.

The offer will be accepted. Within a week.

I suppose better for the city to own the park than for it to go bust and stand derelict. Since it will no longer be "for-profit," maybe they can lower the rates.

Why will it no longer "be for profit"? Councilman Charles Elmore recently stated he expected this to be a money maker for the city. I as a taxpayer in this county hope it turns a profit.

I watched the council proceedings on television this morning and it was nothing but a dog and pony show for the city buying this property. I pray it doesn't turn out to be a financial black hole like the MPEC.

Only time will tell.

I am all for this, IF they can cut the prices for admission in about HALF!!!

We went 1 time this last summer v. 5 times or more like usual past summers.

I told my wife if the prices were reasonable we probably would have went 5 times or more this year vs. just once.

By law, all city entities are a nonprofit. That doesn't mean that they don't make money, just that all proceeds must go back into the organization. I assume the waterpark would come under the umbrella of Parks and Rec.

Wouldn't it be nice if the KYC could turn a profit?

I've wondered if the KYC would do better with outside managment.

LOL... no, not a consultant. Maybe someone who's city job had a minimum salary with bonus incentives for XXX amount of production/progress toward making a profit.

HA! They did that before they built it! Should be ask for our money back???

I am still really torn on this Castaway Cove thing. I hate to see it go but I hate for the city to own it. I guess I assumed that the City is going to do exactly what it wants to do anyway (as always) so why stress over it.

Truer words were never spoken.
