If it is quote from AP, it is probably wrong. Haven't had a factual story from the AP in several years. So Sad! We can't get a straight story.

While we are bashing reporters. When Tops In Blue (the Air Force's performance group) was at Memorial Auditorium recently, on of the TV-3 blondes was overheard asking her frined, "Why did the sing the Air Force song?" |

Hello,
I have never posted on this forum before, but I am "one of the TV-3 blonds," and I think I'm the only one who attended Tops in Blue - so I can only assume this comment was written about me. Working in the media, you grow a pretty tough skin and learn not to get offended by comments, but I feel compelled to respond to this.
The majority of my friends in Wichita Falls are in the Air Force; I do stories at Sheppard all the time; I reported live at FreedomFest last year (at Sheppard) while Tops in Blue performed, and I consider myself pretty patriotic. There is no way I would have asked anyone why they sang the Air Force song during Tops in Blue. I attended the performance with about six Air Force Pilot friends, I had written stories previewing the event, and I am well aware of the fact that Tops in Blue is the Air Force's premiere performing group.
The only thing I can think of is that someone overheard me talking about how I dislike the last verse of the Air Force song ("We live in fame or go down in flame"). Whenever I hear the Air Force song, I always say to whichever friends are with me, "Why do they put that in their song?? It makes me nervous for y'all! I don't want any of you to go down in flame!!" So, maybe whoever overheard my comment didn't hear what I really said.
Who knows - maybe there was another of "the TV-3 blonde" at Tops in Blue, so maybe I'm babbling for no reason ... but I think I'm the only one who went, so I just wanted to clarify. I'll be the first to admit that I make mistakes sometimes, and that I make my share of ditzy comments from time to time ... but I was there supporting the Air Force and did not ask that silly of a question. For anyone who hasn't seen Tops in Blue in action ~ be sure to go next year! It's free and it's a real treat. :)
As for the main topic of this discussion: Yes, it's unfortunate that news doesn't always get reported accurately ... I think I speak on behalf of most of the other media personnel in saying we do our best to try to get things right. We don't always, though, and sometimes there are negative (albeit unintentional) consequences for inaccuracy. So we just keep striving to get it right. I'm glad KFDX had it right this time, but I'm sure we make mistakes more often than even we realize (and believe me - our viewers do a pretty good job of informing us when we've messed up!). We try to correct our mistakes, take ownership of them, and learn from them.
Thanks for reading,

Just for the record: Did I hear this first hand? NO. I did not.
Did I hear it from a reliable source? Yes, the gentleman is usually reliable. Perhaps he misunderstood. |

I had to smile about recent posts in this thread. They have been hilarious to read. While I believe that anyone who brings themselves to the attention of joe public leaves themselves open to critisism because they are displayed in the public eye, is it right to "bash" those reporters, politicians, musicians, actors and the like for their mistakes or perceived mistakes or the actions that they take which are circulated widely ?
The post by gooddaysunshine IMO was excellent and written in extremely good reporter fashion, giving the facts and the truth of the situation WITHOUT "bashing" other members posts who appeared to do the opposite (including myself). I wonder however, how members would have reacted had a certain Mr Obama commented on this forum, responding to critisisms of himself in a different style.
I think that critisism of persons in the public eye are fully acceptable on this forum, but for the individual concerned to respond is unique and very welcomed. Sorry, but through my ignorance I have no idea what a TV-3 blonde is ? I assume, they are female reporters for x media outlet having aptly coloured hair .... but I could be wrong.
And while I too welcome gooddaysunshine to the forum, I sincerely hope that her future posts can give an opposite viewpoint to the recent media threads posted by other members. That would be superb. |

I too hope that gooddaysunshine will chime in with a different perspective. It can't be easy sitting there with a camera staring you in the face, knowing that if you sneeze during a newscast it will be all over town the next day. |

Everyone in the media (reporters & anchors), whether it be local or national make mistakes every now and then. For the most part I rarely see that many on TV3 although they must have enough to make their annual blooper reel.
I know enough about telelvision to know that directors and technical problems can cause the mistakes we blame the reporters for.
I'm pretty sure we have members from the KAUZ news team on this forum. I feel compelled to ask, if they had anyone at the council meeting when the water park was discussed? |

KFDX got today's story wrong from city council on semantics. The website says that the announcement was that Carter Copter was staying in WF. That's not the case, the announcement today was announcing a partnership with another company. |

I believe it says just that in the second sentence.
If I remember correctly a few weeks ago there was a story on this and Carter said if he didn't get this contract he was probably going to have to relocate his business. If that is correct, then their headline is correct. As a result of this contract he is able to stay in WF.
Right? |
